The first weekend in February has arrived and conditions at Hood haven’t improved. Joel and I rode all day on Super Bowl sunday getting up high on the Cascade lift (the highest lift on the mountain). Winds were stiff as a warm front push out but the crusty surface was smoothed by a rain/sleet/snow storm the night before making for fast turns on open slopes.
We brought our snowshoes up as well to poke around in the wood and try to gain access to a good looking ridge just east of Hood Meadows Resort. Low snowpack at 4,500ft slowed our pace and an eight foot deep drop into a stream bed completely blocked us from making to the bottom of the line. We turned back to the car and enacted the Super Bowl play for play, beer in hand as Hunter Thompson would (Where The Buffalo Roam).
